Gilmour Spaceflight Academy will be back Q1 2018

March 15, 2017

Dear valued customers & partners,

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your support of Spaceflight Academy in the Gold Coast.

Since our soft launch late last year, we've received fantastic feedback from schools and the general public on our high-fidelity simulators and immersive space programs. We’ve been featured in the media, including Channel Eleven’s Totally Wild, Channel 9’s Today, Channel 10’s Scope, Channel 7's The Great Day Out, and more!

We won two design awards for our simulators. And we've had many exciting discussions with universities and TAFEs in Australia and Singapore (and NASA in the US) about research and development on future space technologies.

When my brother James and I first started work on Spaceflight Academy three years ago, we had an over- arching dream of getting humans to space. The Academy, which we privately funded, was a part of that dream – a way for us to educate and entertain the public, in particular the younger generation, about space and its incredible potential for humankind.

Perhaps lesser known to this group is that we'd also started another company here to design and build low-cost small space launch vehicles.

That company, Gilmour Space Technologies, has since grown from three part-time engineers, to a 15-strong team across Singapore and Australia.

Last year, we successfully test launched Australia’s first hybrid rocket using proprietary 3D printed fuel. Our Singapore business received an R&D grant to develop that capability, and I believe we now have enough professional funding to get us to suborbital space within two years, and to orbit within five.

Our mission: to provide small/nano satellite owners with low-cost, timely and reliable access to space. (You are welcome to follow our progress at gspacetech.com.)

In view of key milestones ahead, I have decided to put Spaceflight Academy operations temporarily on hold as we focus on getting our rockets to space.

Rest assured, however, that Gilmour Spaceflight Academy will be back in the first quarter of 2018 with exciting new simulators and a more focused strategy of delivering space and STEM education to the next generation of astronauts. Do subscribe to our newsletter for updates on what's coming.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience that this hiatus may cause, and will be contacting all parties who may be affected by it in the next few weeks.

Again, we thank you very much for your support of Spaceflight Academy, for sharing our love of all things Space, and we hope for your support again next year. We will be back.

To the stars!
